Coastal Ag Cooperative History and Background

Coastal Ag Cooperative (CAC) was recently formed when Gulf Coast Cooperative and Smith Gin Co-Op merged in 2024. Gulf Coast Coop was originally created when Kleberg County Farmers Cooperative (formed in 1944) purchased the privately owned Palo Alto Gin.  Following that, the coop continued to grow with a merger with Petronilla Cooperative in 2005 and the Chapman Ranch Gin Coop in 2007.  Another grain elevator location was built in 2009 on Chapman Ranch, and then another merger took place in 2010 with the Agua Dulce Grain Cooperative. In 2021, Driscoll Grain Coop was also merged into the organization, and then in 2023, the coop purchased the previous Corpus Christi Grain elevator location by the Corpus Christi International Airport. These consolidations enable CAC to increase operational efficiencies to provide better services for our members and farmers in our area.
